What is Chiropractic Care?

The main focus of chiropractic care is the relationship between

the skeleton (particularly the spine) and the nervous system

that runs through it. Since your nervous system is responsible

for every function of your body, chiropractic is also concerned

with the care of the entire body.

Chiropractic focuses on addressing the source of your problem,

not simply with treating symptoms.

Doctors of Chiropractic use various diagnostic methods to

identify the state of your health, paying particular attention to

your spine, nerves, muscles and bone structure. Spinal

adjustments, as well as other manual techniques, are the

primary methods chiropractors use to help your body heal

itself.

When should you consider chiropractic care?

Every year, more than 4 million Canadians visit a chiropractor.

There are a number of reasons people seek chiropractic care.

Accidents, sports injuries, and the stress of daily living can

cause pain. However, even if you do not have painful

symptoms, chiropractic can help you maintain a healthy spine

and joint function.

Some of the reasons for seeking chiropractic care include:

Back pain

Neck pain

Headache

Whiplash

Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain

Arthritis pain

Disc injuries

Strains and sprains

Work-related injuries

Sports injuries

Repetitive strain injuries

Prevention of any or more of the above conditions

What are the benefits of chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a highly trained, specially skilled, hands-on

type of health care. Its focus is the relief of pain and helping you

be at your best naturally without the use of prescription drugs or

surgery.

Some of the ways you may benefit from chiropractic care

include:

Better posture

Relief from headaches, neck and back pain

Enhanced athletic performance

Prevention of muscle and joint injuries

Improved flexibility

Correction of gait and foot problems

How much training does a Chiropractor receive?

Following a minimum of 3 years of university studies, a

chiropractor must then complete a rigorous 4-year, full time

education program at an accredited chiropractic college and

pass comprehensive Canadian qualifying examinations in order

to become licensed to practice. Chiropractic is a regulated health

profession in all Canadian provinces.

Family Chiropractic Care

At Fundy Chiropractic and Wellness Centre we believe in helping

families achieve their health potential. Here are some of the

ways family members may benefit from chiropractic care:

Pregnant Mothers

Pregnancy is a time of rapid physical changes. As the pregnancy

progresses, hormones cause the muscles and ligaments holding

the joints together to become loose, and the rapid weight gain

puts added stress on the spine and weight-bearing joints such as

hips, knees and feet.

Regular chiropractic care for the expecting mom can help
alleviate aches and pains associated with the pregnancy.
Chiropractors are specially trained to modify treatment during
each stage of pregnancy. As well, some studies have shown
chiropractic care significantly decreases the average time spent
in labour.

Children

Children make great chiropractic patients! Along with regular

medical, dental, optical and other check-ups, children benefit

from periodic spinal care. For infants, regular chiropractic

check-ups are helpful to monitor spinal development as infants

learn to hold up their heads, sit up, crawl and take their first

steps. As the child gets older and more active all those bumps,

falls, and twists can put added stress on the growing spine.

Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back

and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Remember: “As

the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”

Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It

is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very

gentle.

Seniors

Regardless of age, chiropractic care may help restore spinal

health. Over time, wear and tear on your spine and joints may

lead to degeneration and cause joint pain and stiffness.

Chiropractic treatment can help relieve these conditions so you

can fully enjoy your life!

What can I expect during my first visit?

Please ensure you allot about an hour for your first visit.

When you arrive you will be asked to fill out general information

forms and a health questionnaire. You will then have a complete

initial evaluation including:

In-depth health history

Physical examination, including a posture evaluation,

neurological and orthopedic testing. If necessary, you may be

referred for x-rays.

Following your assessment, you will receive a report of findings

where it will be discussed whether chiropractic care is

appropriate for you, and if so, how chiropractic may help. You

will also receive recommendations on a course of care.

Once a solid understanding is reached concerning your condition

and the report of findings is provided to you, you will receive

your first adjustment.
